Computer Basics Series
Lesson 1: Introduction
In this first lecture the basic ideas behind data and data processing in computers are discussed.
The concept of data is introduced with emphasis on how computers treat bits of information using the simple process of binary addition. It is explained why computers are extremely good at fast execution of repetitive tasks and how real world tasks are dealt with through human-computer interaction. A diagram of a simple computer is introduced, which includes three main components: Central Processing Unit (CPU), Memory, and input/output (I/O) devices. |
Lesson 2: The Processor
What is the processor and how it works are the things you can learn by viewing this lesson.
The design of one of the most famous processors ever made (Motorola 6502) is being discussed. The functions of the different parts of a processor are explained and how they communicate and process data. The step towards modern processors is made by introducing multi-core processors. |
